Forgiveness in the Time of Shelter-Free 8 Week Zoom Class

Did you ever feel like a past hurt was forgotten until something happens and you find yourself reliving it all over again? This Great Shelter has united our world. Everywhere we are experiencing the need to limit our social interactions. Staying home, missing work or school...for a great many has produced a profound sense of isolation and loneliness.

Many report feeling depression,  grief, frustration or even anger and resentment. Some people have had sleep disturbances or insomnia. Others say they have lost their sense of well being the longer this Shelter in Place goes on.

Have you had the experience where you thought you had worked through something? All the sudden something happens or something doesn't work out and the issues you thought you had resolved pop into your life again?

Anger, resentment, sadness a sense of longing for things to be different can take over when we least expect it and we can loose our normal peace and ease.

Hawaiian Forgiveness or Ho'o pono pono is a simple, easy to learn practice that can permanently resolve old hurts and the burdens these hurts place in our hearts.

Long ago in a paradise we now call Hawaii, there was no formal code of law and no written language. To protect the safety of the family and tribe the Hawaiian’s used a forgiveness technique Ho’o pono pono.

Today, around the world this practice of Hawaiian Forgiveness is used as a direct means to experience deep peace and inner freedom and to unburden the weight of our past.

Ernest Holmes, the founder of Religious Science described Forgiveness as the way to know the Divine within as Love.  The more inner freedom we can create for ourselves the greater ability we have to know love, peace and a greater connection with the Divine.

Everyone has their own understanding of the Divine. The world's great religious traditions share the idea of the Divine as love. However, we can experience the Divine in different ways. For some, the peace and power that comes from being in tune with Nature and Mother Earth is their greatest sense of the Divine. Others may know it as Oneness with all Beings or a sense of Unity with the entire family of humanity.

June 15th my free 8 week Zoom class "Forgiveness, Peace and Happiness" begins.

Good Sleep-the Foundation of Spiritual Living

Sleeping an extra 60-90 minutes each night is a no cost treatment you can do at home to enhance happiness, health and safety. You can begin to improve your health and well being in just a few weeks with this practice and makes it less likely that you will develop hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, obesity and cancer and it reduces risk of early death.1

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 35% of adults are sleeping less than 7 hours a night. After 7 days of insomnia and sleepless nights genetic markers for inflammation, stress, heart disease, and metabolic problems begin to increase in the blood stream.2 One challenge of sleep deprivation is that the more tired we become the harder it is to realize how truly tired we are.3

Some people have sleep difficulties because of hormonal imbalances, sleep apnea, substance abuse and stressful situations. It’s a good idea to see your health practitioner if you have experienced more than a few weeks of poor sleep.

I believe that being rested allows our entire being to relax and know more peace, tranquility and joy. When we enjoy the inner harmony that good regular sleep brings our awareness is filled with peace and can more easily “wake up” to the truth of our Divine Being.

I know and accept that you and I sleep in peace, wake in joy and live in goodness and love. Our mind and body are healed with restful sleep each and every night. And this creates the foundation for waking up to richer more spiritual living.

The Number One Healing Secret

I believe you have a healing power-- alive and awake in every one of your cells; working all the time to repair and restore you to state of vibrancy and health. A part of your mind is always able to resonate with the idea of healing.

For me the number one healing secret is to keep a healthy mental attitude and always move towards joy and happiness. Believing that it is possible to achieve the healing you desire can do more than the most expensive drugs or therapies.

So whether you are struggling with osteoporosis, depression, chronic pain and fatigue, diabetes, glaucoma, heart disease, obesity, arthritis, insomnia or any of the more serious illnesses…….

I invite you now to think this over with me.

Our minds and thoughts are constantly moving. When they move in the direction of love, peace, courage and good will they activate a dynamic healing power that can make your healing journey a great success.

Deliberate thoughts of healing and positivity can help your body move from dis-ease to peace, ease, comfort and radiant health.

I see you and I as the perfect expression of Divine Intelligence. Every part of us is filled with Wholeness. We are Whole, Well, and Harmonious now and always.

Lifestyle Changes for Better Sleep

The sun rises, the sun sets, the moon shines longer as the month progresses. These natural rhythms of light and dark regulate our body’s clock and tell us when to awaken and fall asleep.  Light  receptors in our eyes respond to the amount of light they are exposed to- then signal the brain which takes in the information and supervises production of the hormone melatonin to regulate our sleep.

Do you live in a world of light? At night where is your cell phone  and charger , computer, tv,  and remote controls? Does the light from street lamps, passing cars , large buildings and even over head planes make it’s way into  your bedroom? All that light can confuse our brains and disturb our natural tendencies to sleep easily while it’s dark.

Stress, worry and anxiety easily override  our desire for sleep even when melatonin levels are adequate - stress can make sleep seem impossible.  How restful is your sleep? Is it easy for you to fall asleep and stay asleep so that you feel rested when you awaken in the morning?

Well known suggestions  for better sleep include reducing the use of caffeine & alcohol, arranging your bedroom so that offending light sources no longer stimulate your brain, not eating too late at night, meditation and regular exercise.

However other lifestyle changes that you may not have tried can really make a difference when it comes to permanently achieving restful sleep.

A simple yoga pose that anyone can do allows the body and mind to re-harmonize and rebalance so falling asleep seems natural and easy. Savasana (the corpse pose) involves laying down on your back with your arms stretched out to your sides. Some people may need a pillow under their head or their knees to be comfortable.  Once you lay down- quietly observe your body. You may need to adjust your body slightly to be fully at ease. Begin to breathe deeply and rhythmically  place your awareness on your feet and slowly and consciously  relax each part of your body from your feet up to your head. Most people would take about 15 minutes to do this. It is a wonderful way to detach from the day and prepare for sleep.

Two of the best ways to relieve the tension, stress and worry that trigger insomnia are: Keeping  a gratitude journal and practicing  forgiveness on a daily basis. Acknowledging the gifts that surround you- the people and things in your life  that you truly appreciate  can permanently enhance your sense of happiness and satisfaction. This can be something as simple as jotting down 2 or 3 things that really moved you today.

Resentment, grudges, anger and judgement take up so much space in the human heart and can anchor us to the past. Being able to forgive and move on frees us to have more happiness and less worry for tomorrow. Taking a few moments to consciously let go of  grievances and resentments brings a sense of deep sweet peace.

Try these practices every night for two weeks-gratitude & forgiveness along with  Savasana will take the work load off your heart and re-balance blood pressure & breathing rate, reduce tension, anxiety and fatigue and make it much easier for you to sleep.  After two weeks you will have taught yourself  the way to  restful sleep that always brings a  clear head the next morning.
