Weight Loss 185 lbs-Gone-You Can Do It Too!

Lynne in 2010              Lynne in 2012

Exhausted, craving sugar and always hungry:
Lynne Daniel Ivey attended her first Weight Watcher’s meeting at age 10. For the next 40 years she was constantly hungry and tried diet pills, shakes and protein bars, counting calories, weight loss support groups , cottage cheese and grapefruit etc…none of them ever seemed to work for a very long time. During high school and college she was active in a marching band and was able to keep her weight between 124 to 150 lbs. But as her 40’s arrived it became more difficult to keep things in balance.
As her wonderful mother's health began to decline-Lynne watched the effects of Type 2 diabetes ravage her mother's health. Her mom passed away at 74 and by that time Lynne was afraid for her own health.....

"My weight of 344 lbs was  too much for my  5’4” frame…. the low fat, heavy exercise routine I followed seemed to make me  more hungry, more sick and I was exhausted all the time. I felt like a complete failure and I didn’t know what to do”
How Lynne lost 185 lbs:
Lynne learned a  new way of  eating from  Dr. Eric Westman, MD-the Founder Director of the Duke Lifestyle Medicine Clinic at Duke University. She began a low carb/low sugar ketogenic weight loss diet.

What Is Ketogenesis?

Balancing a low sugar/low carb with balanced proteins and healthy fats puts the body into a metabolic state known as ketogenesis or ketosis where body fat is burned more rapidly and efficiently for fuel. Weight loss for many can be dramatic.... up to 8 lbs for women and up to 10 lbs for men during the first few weeks. However since our bodies are unique some people will lose more rapidly than others.

How Long Before the Hunger and Sugar Cravings Stopped?

After 3-4 days of strictly following the diet Lynne's  hunger and constant cravings for sweets  diminished. She began to feel satisfied after eating and no longer thought about sweets and feeling hungry. It got easier the longer she stayed on her low carb plan.

How Soon Did the Weight Loss Begin?

Lynne began to lose weight the first week. Some weeks she lost more and some weeks less but consistently the scale kept going down as long as she stuck with her plan, drank plenty of water and exercised.
What is a Low Sugar/ Low Carb Diet Plan?
She ate a balanced food plan and enjoyed beautiful fresh foods while staying at about 20 grams of Total Carbs a day. Lynne chose clean, lean burning proteins-poultry, beef, seafood and eggs  with healthy fats like olive oil and coconut oil, along with non starchy vegetables (lettuce, kale, spinach, onion, tomatoes, green beans, squash, zucchini, broccoli and bell peppers with modest amounts of low sugar fruits-blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries.
Today her arteries are clear, her blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and A1C levels are all normal. She has no problems with  hypertension, blood sugar metabolism, fatigue or low energy. Lynne is enjoying the best health of her life. The very low sugar. low starch life style has been good medicine for Lynne and she is no longer at war with herself or the scales.
