Discover Your Best Healing-Where to Turn When You Want Help

I believe each of us is unique- so there is no one best way for everyone to heal.  Sometimes healing can be simple --just a matter or taking it easy and getting extra rest. At other times you may need to learn what feels best for your body.

People with serious health challenges  like cancer, parkinsons, ms, dementia -may be innundated with too many suggestions. The cause of an illness is not always known right away so at a time of high stress and possible physical discomfort-people can feel out of balance, overwhelmed and not know what to do…..

Did  you know there is a mantra to reveal the best method of healing for your individual situation?

If you are feeling lost or unclear about which doctor or method of healing to use- Dhanvantre mantra can bring clarity. Dhanvantre also known as Dhanvantari is the ancient Hindu god of healing. This simple version of Dhanvantre chant is easy to learn. It can guide you to the best possible choices for your situation and also bring healing on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.

“Om shri Dhanvantre namaha”
sounds like om shree Don-von-tray  nam-ah-ha

The translation is:

“Salutations to the being and power of the Celestial Physician.”
“Please direct me to the right healer or system of healing to help
me with my particular problem or condition.”1

A wonderful version of this chant by Deva Premal can be heard in the video posted below. If illness prevents someone from chanting on their own they can listen to this recitation and enjoy all the benefits. Does Dhanvantre mantra call to you?  Then find a quiet place and repeat this chant 108 times daily for 40 days.

For those times when greater clarity is needed- whether to beat obesity, sleep better, get rid of depression or find the healer to help you with a difficult situation-Dhanvantre mantra may bring  peace of mind and reveal the best path of healing for you. I’d love to hear about your experiences with Dhanvantre mantra. You can write to me in the comments section listed below or email me direct at the address listed above.

World Peace & Your Divine Intention with "Dances of Universal Peace"

"The only way we can make peace is for each of
us to be the peace we want to see."

Susan Collin Marks:http://www.sfcg.org/

With the internet and social media the world has become a smaller more open place. Instantly we can have an idea of what is going on anywhere. Are you thinking about what is happening around the world right now? I know I am. But what is going on inside you?

One way to find peace within yourself and to become the peace you'd like to see everywhere.....is by moving your body to the rhythms of peace, unity and love with the Dances of Universal Peace.

From ancient times sacred movement, music and song have been used in celebration and to bring people together.  The Dances of Universal Peace were introduced in 1960 by Samuel L. Lewis- a Sufi teacher and Zen master. You may know of the ecstatic form of Sufi dancing known as Sufi Whirling practiced in many Islamic cultures.

The Dances of Universal Peace have their roots in Sufi traditions; but they are spiritual folk dances-easy to do. You don't have to be particularly fit to participate and anyone can learn them.

Sufi Dancing or the Dances of Universal Peace blend chant, live music and movement into a living experience of unity, peace and self integration. The mystery of these beautiful chants and music in Arabic, Aramaic, English, Hawaiian, Hebrew, Persian and Sanskrit. awakens your Divine Intention, sense of Oneness and community.

"Out beyond the ideas of wrong-doing and right-
doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there."
Rumi, Sufi Master and poet

Join hands to form a circle and celebrate the underlying Unity of all spiritual traditions. Enjoy a remarkable sense of well being and a greater revelation of your own Truth with this healing tradition. No musical ability or dancing talent is needed.

Weight Loss Breakthrough and Overcoming Sugar Addictions with Ganesha Mantra

"Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It's an opening of the heart and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of grace, and it's a way of being present in the moment."  Krishna Das

Do you think your scale must be broken- because no matter what you eat the numbers don’t get smaller? Have you hit a weight loss plateau that you just can’t seem to break through? Does it feel impossible to stop eating sugar or junk food? Do you find that you just can’t start your new food plan?

All to often when we are stuck we circle in on the level of the problem... perhaps it’s time to change your life by changing you mind: with the Ganesha mantra. Ganesha mantra can help you break through your plateau and remove the obstacles that prevent you from eating in a more healthy fashion.

I believe this transformational chant opens the way for powerful results and activates whatever it is that needs to change. From these internal changes your weight loss and ability to make different food choices become more successful. It can be used for overcoming any type of obstacle not just for weight loss or eating habits. It is often used to inaugurate the beginning of any new endeavor-a new project, relationship, job, writing a manuscript, art work etc.

Who Is Ganesha and why does he have a mantra?

Ganesha is the Hindu elephant god. He is known for being the remover of obstacles, the god of beginnings, a patron of the arts & sciences and a spiritual force for intellect & wisdom. Ganesha has over 1000 different names. Many chants and mantras are associated with him- one of the most beautiful and simple chants is - the Ganesha mantra:

Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha

Like all mantras this ancient one works on the level of sound and feeling. Each word in the chant has it’s own powerful meaning and sound effect.

Om = Om is a sacred sound of the vibrations of the universe. It is known as the primordial sound   universal Wholeness

Gam= Is one of Ganesha's power sounds or root mantras.

Ganapataye-Another name for Ganesha- as the breaker of obstacles.

Namaha-This is often is used at the end of a Sanskrit chant or prayer and it has many meanings. It is a sign of devotion meaning- I bow down, I offer devotion I recognize your power, I become one with you.1

If we put the power sounds, feeling and meaning together it could be described as "In Universal Wholeness I recognize your power Ganesha, I offer my devotion, I bow down to you. I am transformed by your power in removing all obstacles."

What is Chanting?

Chanting is a practice of repeating words with a specific spiritual vibration that point your attention inwards beyond the level of thought into the realm of pure consciousness. Meditation and chanting are often practiced together-however you can chant without meditating and exeprience many of the same benefits as if you were meditating. With chanting  you will gain a sense of deep peace, better focus and feeling more relaxed.

Research on chanting in various languages and using different chants has established many benefits from regular practice:calming the breath, stabilizing the blood pressure and synchronizing the heart beat.2 It also improves the mood and produces feeling of peace and mental steadiness. 3

What are Mantras?

The words or sounds you repeat in chanting are mantras. Not all mantras have a specific meaning. It is the sound and vibration of the mantra that frees the mind from its own thinking nature. However mantras with specific meanings work equally well to change our awareness.

Since ancient times mantra have been used in all religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Taoism. Jainism, Sikhism etc. Christian chanting began in Latin and Greek. Saying the Rosary is a form of chanting with words that have actual meaning.

The mantras are chanted 108 times- once or twice a day for 40 days. You can keep track of your repetitions by moving your fingers along a strand of beads called malas. Or you can use unstrung beads and two small containers. Put all your beads in one cup and move one bead to the second cup as you complete each repetition. An easy way is to time yourself on how long it takes to complete 108 repetitions and then chant for that amount of time each day. Ganesha mantra is short and most people will be able to do it 108 times in about 8 minutes.

How to use the Ganesha mantra:

You may want to write out and sign your intention to practice Ganesha mantra. Some people like to write out what it is they hope to resolve.

Find a quiet place and time for your daily chanting. Be alert to how you feel and watch for changes in your thinking and your perceptions about yourself and your life. Have a pen and paper nearby-some people like to keep a diary to record their experiences and insights.

Ganesha mantra works for any type of obstacle removal, to inaugurate any new beginning or enhance new endeavor. I believe that the Ganesha mantra raises your vibration & level of awareness so the obstacles or fragmented parts inside you become smoothly integrated. As these blocks are dissolved a clear sense of direction and what steps you can take for your success are revealed to your deeper consciousness.

Many people are born in countries where chanting is as natural as breathing. It is not so common in the western world. You do not need to change your religion, read Sanskrit or become a speaker of the language you are chanting in. Singing talent is not required either because its the sound vibration of the mantra inside you that effects the change. Just practice with an open heart and let the power of the chant reveals its message to you.

I'd love to hear about your results with chanting. Please write to me on my comment page here or you can email me at the address listed above.

Heal Your Bones-Can the Sound of Your Cat Purring Help?

Cosmo the cat was resting on my chest.  It was a warm day and she began to purr. The more she purred the more drowsy I became and finally I couldn’t stay awake. I took a relaxing nap with Cosmo and woke up feeling great.  Could it be that Cosmo worked some cat magic on me? Have you noticed the sound of your cat purring is soothing? Some say the sound is healing. For years researchers have studied the sounds of cats purring. Robert Eklund has measured the harmonics of domestic cat purrs within the range of 20.94 and 27.21 Hz.1 Apparently, different sound frequencies have potential for healing effects.
Elizabeth von Muggenthaler, a bioacoustics researcher at Fauna Communications Institute  describes  the  frequency range of domestic cats purring as therapeutic for "bone growth/fracture healing, pain relief/swelling reduction, wound healing, muscle growth and repair/tendon repair, mobility of joints and the relief of shortness of breath"2
Cats don’t get osteoporosis or suffer from bone loss even though they like to sleep and enjoy long periods of inactivity. Perhaps it is because they listen to themselves purr.  You can hear wild & domestic cats purring with Dr. Eklund at http://purring.org/
While more research is needed to determine specific effects of cat purring on humans….it's possible that the healing frequencies of cats will be used to give us stronger bones with faster healing. In the meantime I hope Cosmo will reveal the healing secrets of her purring to me soon.
Let me know about your healing experiences with your cats, dogs or pets I’d love to hear about them.  You can post your comments below or email me direct at the address listed above.

Healing From a Place of Wholeness

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year"
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I believe that inside you, inside me and inside everyone a Wholeness exists and that all healing comes from that Wholeness. I believe our thoughts, centered on this Wholeness, can heal us.
Our thoughts help us heal
Each time we  perceive ourselves as well, grounded, happy, calm, peaceful and at ease we strengthen our ability to make that our new way of being.
Have you ever noticed that you can hide your positive feelings about yourself with thoughts that are depressing or anxiety producing by worrying, or by comparing yourself to others?
Feeling desperate about losing weight or not having a body we like, living with chronic pain and fatigue, inflammation, or more serious illnesses can make our opportunities seem limited.  Needing a new job, a place to live or struggling in a floundering relationship can be equally daunting. Of course not every condition can be permanently reversed but what can change is our perceptions about ourselves and for that to happen we can turn to the Wholeness within us.
Psychologists use Cognitive Behavior Therapy to help people change their thinking in the midst of such challenges.  We can also begin a change inside ourselves with meditation, practicing compassion, gratitude and cultivating the awareness of what makes us happy and what helps us to feel Whole.
"Live quietly in the moment and see the beauty of all before you."
Paramahansa Yogananda
A new reality of Wholeness for deepest healing
As we turn our attention to consciously experiencing Wholeness within we may begin to feel new feelings of oneness, happiness and have  life affirming thoughts. Repeatedly turning our attention to the Wholeness within we will strengthen our ability to remember these feelings.  Over time it becomes easier to call them up.  Focusing on these new feelings several times a week creates a new reality of Wholeness within us and about us.
When we can remember our Wholeness and allow ourselves to embrace it-truly our deepest healing takes place. Then, our remembered Wholeness can become the foudnation upon which our special diets, medications, natural remedies, what we have heard from our families, friends and even our self talk rests.
Stefan’s Story
Recently I was asked to meet a man I'll call Stefan to see if I could help him experience more joy. Stefan is an 80 something gentleman who has many challenges. He can no longer walk and uses a wheel chair. He has dementia and can only speak in short phrases of 2-3 words.
Using simple questions I discovered that he was a retired interior decorator who loves nature and classical music. He liked my idea of driving to see some of the beautiful homes in our area.
Summer is just beginning its end here and the weather for our drive was gorgeous. We took our time driving by homes with dramatic landscaping, covered verandas, entry ways twined with morning glories and roses. Stefan let me know that he liked what we were seeing with just a few words "Beautiful, oh so beautiful"
As the ducks were settling onto the lake I pulled my car close to the water and we sat there sharing the grace of the  morning. "Beautiful, oh so beautiful".
I dialed up Il Divo, Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. As the music filled the car Stefan began to sway his upper body with the music and smiled.
A friend was out walking and stopped to greet us. After she continued on her way Stefan turned his eyes fully on me and said “So warm.”
We looked at every tree slowly, winding through the woods. Together we became one with each leaf on every tree and one with all the spaces in between each leaf and tree. Stefan’s eyes were luminous and he kept smiling as we drank in the beauty. Each tree was Stefan’s own universe of joy and light. "Beautiful, oh so beautiful."
By the time I returned Stefan to his memory care facility his entire being was glowing. Even though we had few words to share we were able to experience an entire universe of Wholeness which enriched and healed us both.
Try this on yourself
Find a way to recognize your own Wholeness or Oneness and when you are really feeling it say "yes  this is truly me." Breathe it in and if you can stand up straight with good posture and repeat that a few times and then breathe some more.
Anyone can do this-though we may each have a different way of enhancing our experience of Wholeness. It might be with music that sounds beautiful to you. Some people like Stefan can be truly renewed while they are out in nature. Others may only feel at ease and free inside their homes. Whether it is your cat or your car or something different-experiment with what it is that takes you out of your every day self and allows you to remember your own Wholeness and the sense that truly we are all One.
May your heart open.
May joy emerge.
May love flow through you.
May you heal and help others
.
